“Champions believe in themselves even when nobody else”
Sports play a very vital role in teaching team spirit, competitiveness and discipline. Today, a School without games and sports is unthinkable, as sports and games have become an integral element of present-day education. Education is about overall development of the child. In this respect games and sports play a significant role. It is to this endeavor that our school organizes the annual sports meet Aadukalam every year.
Aadukalam is a big sports event that happens in the campus every year. This year the Day 1 event was organized on 22nd of March and Day 2 event on 23rd of March with the aim of encouraging the students to concentrate more on sports activities. The chief Guest for the Day1 and 2 was Mr.Nirmal Singh who had won the title of Mr.Tamil Nadu (Body Building) and Thiru G.Loganatha Balaji who is an Ex. Indian Footballer and an Assistant Manager at Indian Bank, Chennai.
The day’s event started with the Tamil Thai Vazhuthu followed by the welcome address by the School’s Head Boy and Head Girl. Then it was the most interesting and the most spirited part of the whole event “The Olympic Relay Torch”. The flame in the torch represents the positive values that man has always associated with fire and it lit’s the hope in us. The chief guest presided over the oath taking ceremony and declared the sports meet open.
Then various races, throws, jumps followed one by one. Once the races began, the air was filled with cheering and tons of encouragement for the young athletes. An energizing equestrian display set the tone for the rest of the event. The student’s energy till the end of the day mesmerized the audience. The zealous parents gathered in large numbers and constantly applauded the enthusiastic young sports stars.
Apart from teaching us good values such as, sportsmanship, proper spirit of competition, team-spirit, co-operation, discipline in the field, our Aadukalam always makes school life lively, interesting, enjoyable and memorable. The Play ground rimmed reverberating with the sound of cheers and made every one’s day. The day ended with the realization by the students that “Winning is not everything but Making the effort o win is”
