‘A Healthy diet for a Healthy life’
Our QMIS not only takes care of children’s education but also ensure their healthy well being. As an initiative of the Health and Safety committee, coffee evening session was conducted on 22.08.2018, Saturday at 4.30 pm for graders 6-8. The chief guest of the day was Dr.Vasantha Assistant professor of Lady Doak College Home Science of Bio Technology. To begin with Ms. Sujatha, Principal of QMIS stated a Thirukural about healthy food habits and briefly explained it to the audience. Mr.Bharath, Head of the child safety Committee preceded the gathering by mentioning the healthy food habits and this was followed by a skit enacted by Health and Safety Committee members.
Dr. Vasantha began her session saying that food and nutrition play a crucial role in health promotion and chronic disease prevention. She mainly focused on our food habits and the food we should eat. She added that the food that feasts the eyes may not feast the body. Eating good food is necessary as it helps to keep our body healthy and fit. She compared food habits with national flag and elucidated that Orange represents orange and yellow colour fruits, white represents Rice, Milk and Egg, Green represents Vegetables and fruits, and Chakara represents Nuts. She also explained about five groups of food.
The session was very interactive and it was an eye opening session for the parents and the students to know about the importance of healthy food habits.
