Fire Safety and Disaster Management Report
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”
Keeping this in mind QMIS has organized a Fire Safety and Disaster Management session onFriday the 31st of August for students to create awareness on fire-fighting techniques and the means to respond swiftly in times of emergency. It was an unforgettable day as it taught every one about the safety measures that one must follow. This session primarily involved students of Grade6 to 9 and 11.
The session started off with an introduction about what disaster is and the different types of disasters and things that need to be managed duringa disaster. The session had three officers from the fire department who briefly explained about the safety aspects during a fire crisis situation.They educated children about the roles and responsibilities towards ensuring fire safety at their place and understanding fire triangle and spread of fire.They also enlightened children about results of combustion and classification of fires from grade 1 fire to a grade 3 fire.Further they discussed about the types of Fire extinguishers and precautions to be followed during natural calamities and artificial calamities. The officers also taught them about the safety measures to be taken during snake bites,flood,earthquakes etc.They enlightened students on how to safeguard from natural calamities. They further gave clarity on how to check expiry dates on the extinguishers and the things must be followed for safety at home. Children were further educated about the investigation process and insurance processes that they follow for fire causalities. They gave basic knowledge about how to tackle grade 1 fire to grade 3 fire. Various methods of first aid were also taught for different types of fire accidents. Students had practical sessions.They were involved in various activities to undergo a practical experience. The session was interactive and was a great eye opener for the children.Whatmore! The young kiddos doused off the fire themselves, with extinguishers. The session was very interactive and informativeand itended with a live demonstration from the officials.
